Frequently Asked Questions
How do “Safety Switches” work?
Safety switches monitor the power used on the circuit (s) and interrupt the power supply if there is an imbalance in the circuit in the form of earth leakage such as someone getting an electric shock. The main disadvantage of Safety Switches is that a lot of electrical appliances have inherent earth leakage which, either individually or cumulatively, can cause false tripping of the safety switch.
How do I find the reason the safety switch is tripping?
Follow the flow chart of the attached “Safety switch fault finding guide” Click here to view the pdf document
I suggest you print out the file and keep it near your switchboard.
What do I do if the power goes out?
Firstly check your switchboard to see if any circuit breakers have tripped, if so try to reset them. If there is no circuit breakers tripped, check with your supply authority by calling their “faults” phone number which is on your electricity bill to see if the power is out in the area
